Job Details
High-Temperature Specialty Plastics Mold Engineer
High-Temperature Specialty Plastics Mold Engineer
Position Overview
Responsibilities
- Develop injection-mold concepts from product drawings and material properties, covering parting, gates, runners, venting, ejection, thermal control, cores and inserts; deliver 2D/3D drawings, BOMs and machining specifications.
- Use Moldflow to analyze filling, packing, cooling, warpage and fiber orientation, identify risks such as deformation, trapped gas, burning and weld lines, and optimize mold and process parameters.
- Follow mold machining, assembly and trials; resolve warpage, dimensional variation, splay, burning, drag marks and fiber exposure; define process standards and complete mold acceptance.
- Estimate mold and molded-part costs, join DFM reviews and customer technical discussions, maintain mold documentation, support production maintenance and modifications, and train teammates.
Requirements
- Understand high-temperature specialty plastics such as PEEK, PPS, PPSU/PSU/PEI, LCP, PPA and TPI, including flow, shrinkage and thermal behavior of glass/carbon-fiber reinforced and filled grades.
- Understand hot-runner/high-temperature mold design, steel selection, heat and surface treatment, and the demands of high mold and melt temperatures and high-pressure, high-speed molding.
- Use CAD/UG/SolidWorks for 2D/3D design and Moldflow for flow and warpage analysis, with basic tolerance-analysis skills.
- Able to conduct DFM reviews, diagnose trial defects, estimate mold machining costs and molding cycle/yield, communicate technical issues and provide basic team guidance.
